Today is another day in Holy Week called Maundy Thursday and this year I’m especially moved by the example of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet, and the intensely personal, humane, and gracious gesture that is.

It’s worth noting Jesus’ commandment to his disciples to love one another — which is an extraordinarily difficult task in this broken world.

Just as broken as when Jesus walked with dusty sandals on the earth and the “unclean” woman washed his feet with her perfume and her tears, the gesture, he welcomes, the gesture he would later perform on Thursday, the epitome of —

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8).

This is a worthy call and good to ponder this week, of how can I better love and care for those in my world.
