Spring is tightly
wound and about
to unfurl. My lilac
bush nearly bloomed
without my notice.

Within one month,
spiral petals will spin;
bees will hum among
brown branches soon
thick with broad leaves.

Purple berry-like buds
hold tightly, impervious to
the sun, knowing tonight’s
misty chill will shrivel
delicate petals.

Waxy verdant leaves
rolled against April’s
breezes will soon sing
and unfurl into May’s
whispering winds.
