Grace felt in short supply

today and surely

was missing in

my interactions with

medical insurance,

Doctors offices,

the DMV,

mobile phone company,

our bank….

plenty of barbs

and jabs

and shame

from a wounded

and frayed world.

I understand yet

don’t take those

offenses personally.

Yet

it was still

a Jonah Day.

Until

I saw

this bright

flowering tree,

set against

a deep blue sky,

and clouds in

the distance

look like waves.

Reminding me of

God’s unrelenting

grace, the rain

He delivered to

grow this tree,

the breath in

my lungs, the sun

on my face.

Maybe grace is

quiet today, but

present; a rustling in

the wind, the buzzing

of a bee, the laughter

of my daughters.
